Do you remember how it happened for you? The moment when that person or persons first encouraged you to sing or play at liturgy? Maybe it was an encouraging word from a teacher or friend. Maybe it was a parent who informed you that you'd be participating! Maybe it took lots of encouraging and inviting, or maybe once was all that it took.
No matter how it happened, it happened for each of us; an instance when we were encouraged, engaged, supported, invited. These moments of engagement are critical in the lives of young people and to the life of the Church. These moments are exactly what this new initiative, One Call, is all about.
As we announce the founding of this new institute, we give thanks for all of the mentors and advocates we have known in our lives. From parents and grandparents to teachers and coaches, countless mentors and advocates have helped bring our vocations and ministries to life. In particular, we give thanks for the gift that the Music Ministry Alive! program has been in our lives. It was at MMA that the three of us first met, it was at MMA that we were most deeply encouraged, and at MMA that we came to truly understand the importance that mentorship and advocacy. Thanks to you, David and Lori, for changing our lives.
In the Prologue to his Rule for monasteries, Saint Benedict commands that, when any good work is begun, "you must pray to God to perfect it." Today, as we officially announce the establishment of One Call, we ask for every blessing and gift of the Spirit. Thanks to all of you for keeping One Call in your prayers.
God, come to our assistance. Lord, make haste to help us!
